Our step-by-step wizard walks you through everything. One screen at a time, no overwhelm.

Start Setup Wizard

Takes about 15 minutes. No programming required.

How It Works

1

Follow the Wizard

Our companion guide walks you through each step. Download the script, open Terminal, run it.

2

Configure Your Bot

Add your API key (a password that lets your bot use AI models — get one from OpenRouter for $5-10, or use the free tier to try it out), set a budget, and personalize your assistant.

3

Start Chatting

Your AI is running locally. Chat via web dashboard, then add Discord or iMessage.

What You Get

🔒

Your Data Stays Yours

Runs entirely on your Mac. Your files, chat history, and API keys stay local. Only your prompts are sent to your chosen AI provider (OpenRouter, Anthropic, etc.) — no third-party data storage.

💬

Chat Anywhere

Works with Discord, iMessage, Telegram, or web chat. Pick your favorite or use them all.

🧠

Actually Useful

Research topics, manage your calendar, draft emails, summarize documents, and learn your preferences over time.

Always On

Your AI runs 24/7 in the background. Ask it anything, anytime. Responds in seconds.

💰

You Control Costs

Pay only for what you use. Set spending limits. Budget-friendly options start at $5/month.

🛠️

Grows With You

Start simple, add skills later. Web browsing, file management, calendar access — all optional.

Built on Trust

OpenClaw was built by someone who isn’t a coder — with AI assistance. That means it’s designed for people like you, not developers.

Questions?

Is this safe?

Yes. ClawStarter sets up OpenClaw to run locally on your Mac. Your data stays on your machine — no cloud middleman.

The setup script uses industry-standard security practices. Your API keys are stored locally and only sent to the AI provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). Nothing is transmitted to third parties.

What does it cost?

ClawStarter is free. The setup script costs nothing.

You pay only for AI model usage:

  • Free tier — OpenCode's Kimi K2.5 (no signup, great for trying it out)
  • Budget ($5-15/mo) — Occasional use with paid models
  • Balanced ($15-50/mo) — Daily use with premium models ⭐ recommended for real use
  • Premium ($50+/mo) — Heavy usage, complex work

Start with the free tier to try it out, then upgrade to Balanced when you're ready for daily use.

Do I need to know how to code?

Nope. If you can copy and paste, you can run ClawStarter.

Follow our step-by-step wizard: download the script, run it in Terminal, and answer a few setup questions (API provider, budget, preferences). Takes about 15 minutes.

What can it actually do?

Out of the box, your AI can:

  • Answer questions and have conversations
  • Search the web for real-time info
  • Remember context from past chats
  • Read and write files
  • Run terminal commands (with your permission)

You can connect messaging apps (Discord, iMessage, Telegram) and add more capabilities later.

What’s the catch?

There isn’t one. This is an open-source project built for real people who want a personal AI without vendor lock-in.

You own your data. You control the costs. You decide what it can access. No subscriptions, no upsells, no tracking.

My Mac goes to sleep. Will this work?

The setup guide includes a command to keep your Mac awake (but turns off the screen to save power). This ensures your AI is always responsive.

If you need your Mac to sleep (like a laptop you carry around), you can skip that step — just know your AI won’t respond while the Mac is asleep.

Can I use this on multiple Macs?

Yes! Run ClawStarter on each Mac. Each will have its own independent AI agent. They don’t sync automatically, but you can share config files between them if you want.

What if I want to uninstall it?

Delete the bot user account from System Settings → Users & Groups. That’s it. Everything is contained in that one user account.
